A-Z OF BRITISH FOOD: L IS FOR LEMON CAKE

Once upon a time (well, three years ago), when Emma Goss-Custard finished her studies she decided to start a sandwich round, which she called Honeybuns. She also baked some cakes, including a scrumptious lemon cake, dense, drenched in tart juice, made with real butter and free-range eggs. All the local delis and cafes started clamouring for Emma's cakes and cookies, and she had to make more and more. And guess what? Emma's Lemon Cake won the Supreme Champion Award and Best British Speciality at this year's Great Taste Awards. Demolish, down to the last crumb, at the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford and at John Lewis cafes in the London region. Scrumptious Lemon Cake
