THE HUMAN ANGLE

Name: Charlotte Drake-Smith
Job title: Production Manager
Company name: Honeybuns
HQ: Sherborne, Dorset
Employees: 20-26 depending on the season

What's it like to work for your company?
Challenging, fun and rewarding. Every day is different and fulfilling.

Why is the company a good employer?
We have a fair, honest and kind company ethos and we also promote internally. We have just started a scheme called Bee Involved, where we invite the team to come forward with activity ideas ranging from hedge laying, bird watching and needle work to dog training.

What's the best thing about working there?
Working in beautiful surroundings and doing a job that involves all my passions - the countryside, gorgeous food and lovely people.

Are there any unusual benefits?
The team eat home-cooked meals together three times a week in a team room filled with pink parasols and polka dot tea pots.

How does Honeybuns differ from its rivals?
We do everything properly, by hand, slowly usuing only the best ingredients to produce utterly unique products. Everyone here is passionate about what they do and it shines through.

Is there a definable company culture?
We promote kind and supportive team work. We also encourage outstanding professionalism and continuous improvement.

If the company were a car, what would it be and why?
It would probably be a VW camper-van slightly hippy and fluffy looking on the outside, but with a very well-made, smooth running engine under the bonnet and luxurious comfort inside.

What's the training like?
We do in-house training, covering all our health and safety policies. We work closely with Train to Gain and most of our team have now gained NVQs.

Has the company won any awards in the last few years as an employer?
Last year Honeybuns won the Most Inspirational Food Business as part of the Taste of Dorset Awards. The judges highlighted our exceptional focus on the team and their well-being and fulfilment.

What's your proudest achievement if the last year?
In February I tackled my first section of hedge laying. It turned out perfectly and is still growing.

Are you looking for any new people?
Yes, we are looking for a baker. We tend to advertise in the local Blackmore Vale Magazine, because we believe in local sourcing for our team as well as our ingredients.

How does one apply for a job?
Just give us a call on 01963 23597 and we can tell you if we have anything available.

How do I find out more about the company?

Is the company working on anything exciting right now?
We are launching a new range of gluten- and refined sugar-free cookies this month, as well as a Honeybuns lip balm in our Snowy Hills lemon and ginger cake flavour.
