BUZZING SOUNDS

All-female Jazz band The Ladybirds entertains the crowds at the Holwell Bee Hop, a celebration of local food, live music, arts and crafts held at Naish Farm in Stony Lane. The event raised more than £1000 for the Holwell Church Restoration Fund. Work on the 15th-century St Laurence’s Church began four years ago but has had to be postponed for months at a time because of spiralling costs. English Heritage originally gave £150,000 to the project and Dorset Historic Churches Trust donated £50,000 – thought to be its biggest ever grant to a single church. This money paid for initial work, including scaffolding, but more money will be needed to complete the second phase of the project which involves restoring the timber and tile roof to exacting standards.

Sweet Tooth

Rowan and Nina tempt visitors with a delicious selection of cakes from Holwell bakery Honeybuns which organised the event. Despite the May showers, organiser Emma Goss-Custard said the day had been a great success and wished to thank everyone involved for their support.
