Food Ideas From Surminster Newton, Summer 2008

AND NOW, THOSE WHO CULTIVATE, RAISE AND SELL OUR FOOD:

Honeybuns

Nestled deep in the Dorset countryside, Honeybuns has wowed food critics and customers alike with their award range of cakes and savouries. Started in 1998 by Emma Goss-Custard, cakes were delivered in and around Oxford by bicycle. The company has grown organically and sustainably and the team is now twenty six strong.

Honeybuns has grown by word of mouth. Says Emma: "As a relatively small enterprise we do not have the luxury of an advertising budget - instead, our work needs to come from recommendation. By sending samples out we let the cakes do the talking."

Honeybuns is not just concerned with baking beautifully crafted cakes using impeccably sourced ingredients. The company is also dedicated to leaving as light a footprint as possible upon its surroundings. The old farm buildings have been very sympathetically adapted fromn their dairy days to now house the bakery. The 5 acres surrounding the bakery is managed as a wildlife reserve.

Other activities including running a community cafe and looking after a selection of rescue animals. www.honeybuns.co.uk.
