Blackmore Vale Magazine, 21 October 2005 HONEYBUNS - FINALISTS IN SMALL BUSINESS AWARDS |
||||
Honeybuns, makers of delicious hand-made cakes and slices, were one of two Dorset businesses selected among six finalists as regional Small Business Champion for the whole of the south and west. But even if they didn't win, it was a huge boost for Emma and Matt Goss-Custard who run this remarkable food business based on a farm at Holwell near Sherborne. The Honeybuns secret is the quality of the ingredients and the care with which their cakes are made. A good example is the latest addition to the region, the "moo-free" Moosh bar (pictured). This dairy-free bar is hand-made with dark couverture chocolate, almonds and home-grown chocolate peppermint. "It's truly decadent," says Emma. "When making a cake which is 'free-from' an ingredient such as butter, we take a huge amount of time to make sure that the taste and texture do not suffer. The majority of the ingredients for the new slice have been sourced from within a 20-mile radius of our bakery and we have also used herbs, including the chocolate peppermint, which we grow here on the farm." Honeybuns, which is one of the sponsors of this year's new Screen Bites food film festival, will be doing tastings at several of the village halls, including Durweston and Sturminster Newton, and samples of the cakes and slices will be available at all 10 of the screenings. |
