FANTASTIC FESTIVAL FLAVOURS: BROWNIES TO DIE FOR You’re done wading through mud, you’re too far to make a run for it to shelter in the circus or cabaret tents, so you’re gobbling down your donuts before they go soggy while huddled blocking the fresh ground, fairtrade coffee stall as you wait for the shower to pass. Something a little more refined would have been to step into the Honeybuns haven, where you could have a nice cup of tea in a real mug, nibbled delicious homemade cake, and sat back and read the paper in a comfy chair. The successful Holwell bakery owners Emma and Matt Goss-Custard were back for their fourth time to treat weary festival-goers to some home comforts. “We try to create a bit of a haven with proper seats and cushions,” Explained Emma. “It is a reprieve. People really appreciate a bit of carpet.” The Heathcliffe Brownies – an irresistible combination of dark chocolate and almonds with a touch of orange – had sold out by Friday. “I think they hit the spot,” said Emma. Washed down with a mug of tea, ah, perfect. Emma says she loves the community feel among traders at the festival and has noticed the growth in smaller artisan fare. She smiled as she recalled one food connoisseur saying: “I’ve heard the brownies are to die for.” |
