WHAT WE DO
The Honeybuns blog is now available if you want to keep up with the latest news!
We also have a discussion group if you want to post your own comments.
We bake our cherished products far slower than the bigger bakeries. We set our vintage deck oven to a low temperature to allow the flavours to mingle and develop properly. Batches are small and our products are made from scratch using only natural ingredients.
We buy our ingredients from people with a similar approach to our own: flavour-pride-quality-fun! Our free range eggs come from 2 miles away & our butter is the creamy old fashioned kind from Denhay Farm (12 miles). Food miles are not the only consideration we take into account when choosing suppliers as quality, organic status, reliability and price are also important. We have a detailed sourcing policy where we explain this in more detail.
We bake a range of premium cakes and slices which are available as pre wrapped portions or tray bakes. We have launched our new savoury brand, BumbleO this year and we will be developing new flavours ready for 2008. All our of products are wheat-free and many are gluten-free and dairy-free too.
Taste and traceability continue to be our top priorities.
We are inspired by the recipes Emma inherited from her mum and granny who
were ahead of their time in many ways. There is a strong Italian influence
to our range. Instead of wheat flour we use polenta, ground hazelnuts and
almonds. Rather than trying to make Victoria Sponges or scones without flour
we create brand new types of cake like Congo bar & Mooosh bar.
Good Housekeeping published an example of one of our recipes... pretty simple
really but baked slowly and made with care and very good ingredients.
Point of Sale Material
We can offer two types of A5 standey-uppies, mini-standey-uppies which are
quite handy
to put inside chiller cabinets etc, and a point of sale box. Two
types of A5 standy-uppies and the POS box. The POS box
can hold about a dozen pieces of Honeybuns cake. We also have an A3 poster featuring
Joan, our donkey, along with some lovely cake photos. To view the images

ALL THE OTHER THINGS WE DO BESIDES CAKE...
We host an annual music festival and celebration of the summer
on our Farm.
It's called The Honeybuns Bee Hop and there
is real ale, exquisite food and craft stalls,
musique magnifique and lots of children's games. Come the evening we have been
known
to hand out the odd glass of bubbly, light a fire and bring the DJs on. Entry
fee is
kept sensible, we actively welcome anybody nice who'd like to chill.
Campers welcome. All monies raised are shared between the Holwell Village Hall
and Holwell Church Restoration Fund.
Other causes we support are:
Julia's House Childrens'
Hospice - Corfe Mullen
Somerset and Dorset Animal Rescue - Wincanton
Trallwm Farm Animal
Sactuary (mainly horses) - Wales
We also Host school visits, donate cakes to our chosen local fetes
as prizes and
generally try to help out as much as possible with local fund raising activities.
Matt and Emma will be running in the Sturminster Newton Half Marathon in July 2007 as organised by the Dorset Doddlers. We will be runnning in aid of Julia's House Children's Hospice.
The Sturminster Half Marathon is a lovely friendly event organised
by the Dorset Doddlers.
As well as speedio runners they are true connoiseurs of a fine pint and are
a great bunch of
people.
We are not an animal Rescue Centre but we do have a lot of rescue animals. They are purely pets and are members of the family. The goats, Margot & Hilary and two of our dogs, Peg & Diesel came form Liz at Somerset and Dorset animal Rescue who work incredibly hard on rehoming all sorts of needy animals.
Sponsorship
We get a lot of requests for sponsorship from people doing all sorts of interesting
challenges. We focus most of our
resources on the Bee Hop, but examples of people we have sponsored are below.
One
of our loyal flapjack fans, Geoff Miller, wrote to us about his planned trip
to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. He explained that he had been buying our plain
flapjack each morning on his way into work and wondered if we could possibly
supply some sustenance for the trip. As well as training hard, Geoff was
busy raising as much sponsorship as possible for the Red Cross.
We were delighted to be able to supply him with some energy boosting flapjacks
and he recently sent us this awesome photo.
Huge congratulations to him and please
follow the link to Just
Giving to help him raise
more much needed monies for the Red Cross.
Helen Hollex is embarking on the Cycle India charity cycle ride
with Fern Britton the well-loved TV presenter. This is a photo of one of Helen's
training rides. All money raised is going to women's health projects in the
UK.
