Rewarding times

We've just won the Taste of Dorset Harmsworth Award for outstanding contribution to food in Dorset. Nominated by the general public, we were up against stiff competition and so were truly estatic when we won. Em was especially pleased that the judges noted the team's cheerful and friendly vibe.

The beautiful hand painted award plate will be on show in our rustic Bee Shack Cafe, open the first Saturday of each month and as well as luscious Honeybuns gluten free cakes, cookies and drinks we serve gluten free snacks and lunches too.

In August we visited Honeypot House in the New Forest for a picnic with the 12 children staying there. We had loads of fun with the children, and they loved the sowing the wild flower seeds that we took with us in the flower borders in the beautiful grounds. Honeypot offers respite care for young carers aged from 12 to as young as 5 years, and is the main charity that Honeybuns support.

Green credentials

We're comitted to BeeGreen here at the farm and were delighted to see two hedgehogs visiting our nature log pile recently! The vole coppice is proving to be a brilliant habitat as we have spotted loads of bank voles, and hopefully this will give the owls a helping hand. We have adapted two old concrete troughs into a fish haven, and a 'Bee Deli' with bee-friendly plants. Artist in residence Graham has done some wonderful signage for all the nature spots around the farm including Peckingham Palace, home to our bantams Posh and Pecks and new cockerel Elton (John).

The team veg patch is overflowing with produce, a lot of which Charlotte and Em have been using in the recipe testing for our new Honeybuns gluten free baking recipe book (due to be published next May). In August the editor, photographer and his assistant and stylist joined us here at Naish Farm for a week of photographing the recipes and the resulting photo's look good enough to eat! We were also helped out by old Honeybuns team members Nina and Victoria. Keep an eye on our facebook page for sneak previews of the photo's and more information on the book. We now have a gluten free tip of the month on our website too!

The Bee's Knees

This month we have our spotlight on the very fabulous Dike & Son Ltd. in Stalbridge, just up the road from us. This independent family run grocery store at the heart of the local community is committed to stocking fresh and local food with over 100 local suppliers (including Honeybuns!). They can give any of the big supermarkets a run for their money in terms of choice and their friendly and informative staff are always on hand to help. They recently won the Taste of Dorset Best Independent Food Store 2011, but their real coup was winning Best Independent Retailer of the Year in the Retail Industry Awards 2010 against major multiples such as Tesco and Waitrose.

If you have a favourite Honeybuns retailer then do enter our Bee's Knees competition and you could win a fabulous Honeybuns Gift Bags worth £25! Just tell us their name and why you think they're so fabulous, and we will choose the best answer on Monday 12th December..

Things we love

Capricorn Goats Cheese

We use this in our oh so delicious new gluten free Goats Cheese and Mushroom Little Savoury Tarts. It's creaminess envelopes the taste buds and teases it with just a little farmhouse tang!

Five Go Mad

This super stylish website has oodles of unusual gift ideas. We're putting the Jammie Dodger brooches and Henry VIII ladies pants on our wish lists!

Vintage Fair Arts & Crafts

Based in the heart of Yeovil's busy town centre, this new and exciting cafe with a twist has the local community at its heart, and plenty of arts and crafts events and workshops, including Vintage Flea Markets.

Things you love

"Your dark chocolate brownie is the best I have EVER eaten. The first time I ate one I had to stop everything I was doing and just marvel at it!!!!! Thank you so much for conjuring such a beautiful recipe."

"I just had one of your extremely yummy chocolate caramel cakes at The Gingerbread Man in Harpenden. What a pleasure to actually find something good to eat instead of blank looks when I ask for gluten free!"
