Honeybuns Butterfly Buffet Bar
The Hidcote lavender and assorted old fashioned roses we planted just two years ago are now truly blooming. With not much free time to lavish on weeding etc this bed in front of the Bee Shack Café really is a doddle to maintain…
Amongst the lavender we’ve underplanted with blue, white and pink forget-me-nots. So from Spring onwards this mini butterfly haven is bursting with colour. The forget-me-nots also prevent most weeds coming through. Practicality calls, so we’ve also included standard rosemary bushes, thyme & mint. All of which we use in abundance in the Bee Shack Café.
The butterflies and bees have gone bonkers in this mini Eden. If you’re short on space try growing mint/thyme/rosemary in old teapots. Metal ones are best as they don’t crack in frosts & you can drill a couple of drainage holes in the bottom.
We’re making some mint sugar at the moment- inspired by Adele Nozedar’s ‘Hedgerow Handbook’. Layer up granulated of caster sugar in a kilner jar with fresh leaves of your chosen mint leaves. We’re loving chocolate mint- you can buy plants easily online – just search for chocolate mint plants. Leave in a cool dark place for a month & you’ll have gorgeous mint infused sugar. Magic!
