Spring at Naish Farm

Honeybuns bakery rescue animals

When the March winds blow we shall have snow, and didn’t we just?

Cino the Donkey in the snow

The March snow extravaganza brought some unusual visitors to Holwell. A flock of elegant Lapwings stood out brightly in the white field. A pair of Redstarts peaking out from a hedgerow and Fieldfares pecking at fallen fruit.

BeeGreen plans for 2018

Now the March freeze has ended and we’re creeping into Spring, we have big plans for Bee green projects in 2018. Our Bee green team has expanded with Kayleigh, Chelsey, Dan and I joining Graham. We started the year with a huge hedge laying operation conducted solo by expert woodsman Graham. We will be hosting beehives in our Orchard for spring. We are salivating at the thought of delicious blossom honey.

Environmental credentials

The biggest challenge this year is to further our environmental credentials. We have always tried to minimize our waste at Honeybuns. Recycling is an area we can improve. We currently recycle paper, cardboard and waste foil trays. Plastic waste is a problem, not just for us but for everyone. Plastic has been growing issue for the world and we hope to do our bit in our corner of Dorset. How can we reduce our reliance on it? It’s an issue we hope to address this year.

Recycling

We currently recycle as much of our plastic as we can and it’s something we hopefully plan to increase. Unfortunately, many of the ingredients we use in the bakery are packaged in some sort of plastic. However, the used pots and buckets are cleaned and recycled. Plastic bags and sheets are too. There is still room for improvement and I will keep you posted on our progress.
