Honeybuns festive traybakes for free-from foodies
2020 has been the most turbulent year we’ve had since starting Honeybuns in 1998, but it hasn’t just affected us. Our suppliers, customers, consumers, friends, neighbours and family have all been shaken by the events of this year and the pandemic that caused this chaotic time. Being terribly British though, we’ve put the kettle on, made a pot of tea, eaten a slice of cake (or three) and got on with doing what we do best, baking!
And, somehow, it is now November.
Our thoughts have turned to Christmas, traditionally the busiest time of year for many of our wholesale customers, but don’t worry, we’ve been busy through lockdown creating new recipes, trying different ingredients, researching vegan alternatives, and preparing for, what we all hope will be, a busy Christmas season.
A Merry Vegan Christmas
This year has seen a massive rise in veganism (which we happily encourage). According to the Vegan Society, there are now over 600,000 vegans in the UK with the vegan food market increasing by a staggering 987% in 2017, while demand for vegan and vegetarian ready meals and snacks at Tesco grew by 40% from 2016 to 2017.
Dale Vince, owner of all vegan football club Forest Green Rovers recently tweeted, “Half of Britain will be vegan by 2030. I’ll bet £10,000 to back that prediction. If I’m right- the cash will go to @TheVeganSociety (whose job will be half done…in that case..”
We’ve proudly been supplying Forest Green Rovers with Honeybuns cakes for the past 2 years and the feedback from fans has been really positive. We did a sampling session there last Christmas and Dale came over to say Hi and was really supportive.
At Honeybuns, all our traybakes and cake slices are naturally gluten free and our range of vegan-friendly products has steadily increased over the last few years.
We love creating (and eating) indulgent treats that are dairy-free including, our vegan Millionaire’s Slice available as a traybake, or as individually wrapped cake slices, perfect for busy restaurants or independent takeaway cafes, and our vegan Brownies, which are deliciously gooey, especially served warm during the colder winter months.

Our new Mincemeat Crumble with Orange traybake and cake slices, perfect for vegan Christmas menus in pubs and restaurants, is a mouthful of Christmas in every bite.
The naturally sweet date base blends perfectly with the tangy mincemeat centre and the crumble topping of gluten free oats, flax, muscovado sugar, orange zest and cinnamon.
It is great as a warm pudding served with vegan ice cream or can be eaten cold as a takeaway snack by busy Christmas shoppers grabbing a coffee to warm their chilly hands!

As always, our products are handmade in small batches, packaged using environmentally conscious packaging wherever possible (including vegetable-based inks and recyclable cardboard) and we aim to minimise the effect of production by using solar energy, recycling bakery waste, tree planting programmes and our BeeGreen initiative which we launched in 2009, so your customers can be sure that what they’re eating is a healthier option for them and the Earth.
Gluten Free Festivities
Let’s be honest, most of us over-indulge at Christmas, but with Honeybuns artisan bakery products, consumers won’t need to worry about gluten allergies.
All our products have been naturally vegetarian and gluten free since we started production in 1998, with many of them also dairy free, and vegan.
We use ingredients such as, sorghum flour (also known as jowar flour) which is naturally gluten free while offering a light texture and sweet flavour, perfect for cakes and traybakes.
One of our top-selling gluten free cakes is our Dark Chocolate and Orange Brownie which is a firm favourite with wholesalers and retail customers alike.
