Free From producers encouraged to enter exciting new category in 2016 Taste of Dorset Awards

Honeybuns is delighted to sponsor the Taste of Dorset Awards for a second year. "This year we are very excited to be sponsoring a new category, The Freefrom Award," said founder and owner Emma Goss-Custard.

"Obviously this is something close to our hearts, being a dedicated gluten-free bakery ourselves. "This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate an exciting and growing area and our personal experience of the challenges faced by producing free-from products will certainly help when judging".

Honeybuns is a small family run artisan bakers based in Holwell, near Sherborne. Instead of using more conventional flours, it uses bespoke mixes of polenta, ground nuts and seeds, all of which are naturally gluten free. Emma Goss-Custard views gluten-free as an advantage in making really innovative gorgeous tasting cakes. The bakery is busy developing the next generation of cakes that are not only gluten-free but dairy-free wherever possible and sweetened with natural fruits.

Belying its small stature, the bakery supplies a diverse range of customers both locally and nationally. Although predominantly a wholesale based business, the online shop is a rapidly growing part of the business, making the range available to everyone. The pop-up Bee Shack shop runs at the bakery nine times a year, and there's also gluten-free glamping weekends in Honeybuns' vintage caravan. www.honeybuns.co.uk.

How to enter

The Best Independent Café or Tearoom, Best Restaurant or Dining Pub, Best Fish and Chip Shop, Best Butcher, Best Baker and Best Community Pub categories can be entered by the businesses themselves on the dedicated website at www.blackmorevale.co.uk/taste, where each entry has to answer set questions to fulfil the criteria.

Once entries have been received for the Best Tea Room or Café, Best Restaurant or Dining Pub, Best Fish and Chips, Best Butcher, The Freefrom Award, Best Bakery and Best Community Pub categories; these will be narrowed down to the top three by a panel of judges, and then visited in secret, when a winner will be selected.

Best Cider Producer, Best Brewer, Best Dairy Producer and Best Meat or Fish, are also entered by the businesses themselves on the dedicated website at www.blackmorevale.co.uk/taste; where each entry has to answer set questions to fulfil the criteria, and these entrants will also need to submit taste samples of the product(s) pertaining to the category they wish to enter.

Once the entries have been received, the Events team will be in touch to arrange delivery of the items for the blind Taste Test judging. The finalists and winners will be judged and selected on both the Taste Test and the written entry into the awards.

With the Lifetime Achievement Award, members of the public and businesses can nominate individuals for the award on the dedicated website at www.blackmorevale.co.uk/taste. The panel of judges will then select the finalists and winners from this information.

The deadline for all entries is 5pm on Friday 12th August.

Finally, the Food or Drink Business of the Year will be selected from the winner of the other categories, and will be the winners' winner.
