In each issue of Eating Smart, we highlight Free-From producers who go the extra mile to provide really fabulous food.


Emma Goss-Custard started Honeybuns in 1998 as a student in Oxford. Using gluten-free recipes handed down from her mother and grandmother, she started making cakes to supply to local businesses, deliverying them in person on an old post office bicycle.

In 2001 the company relocated to Naish Farm in Dorset, a listed farm with outbuildings, which have been sympathetically adapted to house the bakery. Since then Honeybuns has grown to a team of 26, providing employment for local people.
“As a relatively small enterprise we do not have the luxury of an advertising budget," says Emma. "Instead, our work needs to come from recommendation. We let the cakes do the talking”.

Emma is passionate in her pursuit of excellence and uses locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. All the cakes are still hand made by her dedicated bakery team and slow baked in their vintage oven. Her award winning range includes brownies and layered shortbread cakes, flapjacks, plus cookies and savoury tarts. Alternatives to flour such as polenta and ground nuts are used to make them suitable across a range of dietary needs - all their products is now gorgeously gluten free. Some are dairy free too.
