Happy Easter everyone! I’ve been searching out even more obscure hiding places for the annual haul of Easter eggs. The tumble drier is a good bet, ditto the laundry basket – two places my inquisitive sons would never think to look, funnily enough.
I now need to get on with writing the clues for our egg hunt, rather than doing my usual trick of leaving it until Easter morning then stalling for time whilst trying to subtly lay my trail, unseen. The kids humour me and make out they’ve not seen me sneaking about in the old poly tunnel hiding garishly packaged goodies in flower pots.
Simple pleasures are the best eh? This year we need them more than ever and I cannot wait for the holidays to begin.
This year we’ve compiled a select top pick of Easter egg alternatives for those of you who fancy something a little bit different to the standard supermarket offerings. Perfect gluten free treats for yourself or ideal to gift to loved ones.
As ever we’ve chosen the best of artisan makers who meet the following criteria:
- Genuinely hand made in small batches
- Small family run businesses
- Gluten free and/or vegan products with UK wide delivery
- Ethical and sustainable products and packaging
As an artisan gluten free bakery, we’ve naturally focused on what we know best: yummy foodie gifts, all made in the UK. It would be remiss of us not to feature one of our own gift ideas, the rest are from makers we know and trust. We’ve also included a non foodie treat just for luck.

Emma, the founder of Shed Soy Candles, has helped us massively in our search for cruelty free, paraffin free vegan candles. The Homme candle is scented with bergamot and patchouli essential oils, which can help reduce anxiety. I’ve got mine burning on my desk as I type and it smells utterly dreamy. Love, love love everything about Shed – the eco packaging, super chic glass container and purifying scents.
I’ll be popping one of these into my DIY hampers too.
